smoke and mirrors

In addition to breathe design, I'm starting this blog because I also love beauty and skin care.  With a lot of wasted time and money, I feel like I've tried virtually every product under the sun, so I thought breathe beauty would be be fun way to share this knowledge and spread the love.  (And to be honest, I just turned 25, and have recently begun to take skin care more and more seriously.  Better be safe than sorry right?)

I notice that although there are a ton of fashion blogs online, there seems to be a dearth of beauty-oriented blogs.  One of the reasons I think that people have a difficult time with beauty blogs is that everyone has different skin and personal beauty preferences.  As a woman of color, however, I think that my own personal experiences along with my friends' (and even my mom's!) has helped me feel comfortable with what works for a diverse spectrum facial features, aging concerns, skin and hair types.   I really want to start this blog to create a dialogue and community for reviewing products but also talking about the challenges of figuring out what works for you-- a process that we all continually struggle with.

Like everyone else, it's easy to get stuck in a rut with your beauty or makeup routine, or to feel intimidated by the insane range of products from the drug store, to Sephora, to Neimans, to Whole Foods.   To feel incredibly confused and/or guilty about all of the random products you have in your makeup drawer and medicine cabinet.  Thinking to yourself: "What the hell was I thinking, why did I buy this, what is this, and should I throw this away?"  I am hoping this blog will prevent you from questioning what's in your bathroom and help you feel more confident about your purchases, routines, and most importantly, yourself.   Because we all know that, in the wise words of Dolly Parton,  at the end of the day, it's all smoke and mirrors.
